Your library and files

Your photo library stays on your Mac. Kura reads folders you link with permission and stores organizing data (collections, tags, people, locations, and related metadata) locally in the app’s database. Kura does not upload your photos, filenames, or library contents to a Kura cloud. If a linked folder is synced by iCloud, Dropbox, or another provider, that provider handles synchronization under its own privacy policy.

Optional features that write labels back into image metadata change files on your disk only when you enable them. Those writes stay local unless you sync the files with a third-party service.

App networking

The Mac app works offline for browsing and organizing. It contacts the network only when needed for:

• License activation — sends the license key you enter to kuraformac.com to validate entitlement. The key is also stored in your Mac Keychain.
• Software updates — checks the Sparkle appcast hosted on kuraformac.com and may download update packages from that site (or a linked release host).
• Opening purchase or account links you choose (for example Buy or Manage license), which load in your browser.
• Optional reverse geocoding of GPS coordinates already present in your photos, using Apple’s location services on your device when that feature runs.

Kura does not include third-party app usage analytics SDKs and does not send your library media for analytics or advertising.

Purchases, licenses, and account

Purchases are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects the payment and customer information needed to complete checkout, tax, and fraud prevention under Paddle’s privacy policy. We do not receive or store your full card details.

After a successful purchase, Paddle notifies our servers. We store the information needed to fulfill your license: typically your Paddle customer id, email address, transaction identifiers, license key, purchase and entitlement dates, and license status. That data is stored in our database hosted by Turso.

Signing in on the website account page uses your purchase email to look up your license and may set a session cookie so you stay signed in while managing your account or opening Paddle’s customer portal. License activation from the Mac app sends only the license key (not your photo library).

Website hosting and downloads

This website is hosted on Vercel. Hosting and security providers process connection data needed to deliver and protect the site (for example IP address, browser user agent, and approximate country derived from the request). Download links for the Mac app may be served from this site or a linked file host; those providers receive normal connection information when you download.

We do not currently load third-party website analytics (such as Google Analytics) or advertising pixels on kuraformac.com.

Support

If you email us, we process the information you include to answer your request. Please avoid sending private photo library contents or credentials unless they are necessary for support.

Data location and retention

Local library data remains on your Mac until you delete it or remove the app’s data. License and purchase records are kept as long as needed to provide entitlement, prevent abuse, meet accounting or legal obligations, and operate the product. Paddle, Turso, Vercel, and Apple (for device location services) may process data in other countries under their own terms and safeguards.

For questions about data handling, retention, or requests to access or delete information associated with your purchase email or license, contact hi@kuraformac.com. Rights available to you depend on applicable law (including GDPR where it applies). You may also contact your local data-protection authority. In Germany, that is typically your state data-protection commissioner; see also the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection.
